Sleep Perchance To Dream is an app, currently only available on the iOS platform, which is designed to aid and improve sleep. Using musical soundscapes, carefully enhanced with binaural beat technology, the app gradually entrains the brain to alter its brain wave patterns leading to sleep. Optionally it can also induce the different types of sleep including, REM dream,non REM dream and deep sleep states.
There are three different modes built into the app. Power nap is for short sleeps lasting up to an hour, Timed is for any length of sleep up to 24 hours and lastly, Alarm Clock allows the listener to set the time they want to wake up.
When a sleep cycle is nearing completion, the music gradually changes the beat frequency to return the listener to a waking state, before sounding an alarm.
It is possible the app may initially cause a feeling of discomfort, this is due to the need to start at a binaural beat frequency that is above a normal waking state so that the brain wave entrainment can take effect. It should only last a minute or two before the frequency matches that of the listener’s brain.
Due to the way the binaural beat technology works, earphones must to be used to listen to the music.
